볼보 전기 굴착기 EC230 /사진=볼보 건설기계부문건설기계 업계가 친환경 라인업을 강화한다. 각국의 환경규제 강화로 전체 공정 과정에서 배출되는 탄소를 엄격히 관리해서다. 핵심 고객사인 건설사들도 친환경 건설 역량을 바탕으로 탄소중립에 나서고 있고, 주요 제조사들은 핵심 광물의 채굴 단계부터 탄소 배출량을 최소화하려는 움직임이 활발하다. 이에 건설기계 업체들도 수소·전기 굴착기를 전면에 내세운다.1일 관련업계에 따르면 오는 23~26일 독일 홈페르그(Homberg)에서 열리는 '스타인엑스포 2023(Stein expo 2023)'가 개최된다. 유럽 최대규모 건설기계·장비 전시회다. 글로벌 건설기계 톱티어 업체로 손꼽히는 코마츠, 볼보, 리베르 등 전 세계 400여개 브랜드를 운영하는 300여 업체가 참가한다. 국내에서는 HD현대건설기계와 HD현대인프라코어가 각각 현대(Hyudai)와 디벨론(DEVELON) 브랜드를 앞세워 부스를 꾸린다.스타인엑스포는 건설기계 전문전시회 가운데서도 초대형 굴착기·휠로더 등 대형제품 중심이다. 전시보다는 시연에 초점이 맞춰진 행사다. 주요 참가기업은 자사 제품을 앞세워 채굴하는 모습을 직접 선보인다. 행사장도 실내가 아닌 유럽에서 가장 큰 현무암 채석장이다. 고출력이 요구되는 장비가 즐비해 친환경보다는 성능 중심의 시연이 이뤄 져 왔다. 다만. 올해는 다르다. 주요 글로벌 기업들이 앞다퉈 친환경 기술을 선보이기 때문이다. 대표적인 사례가 볼보다. 볼보 건설기계부문은 이번 행사에서 E-모빌리티, 수소 연료전지, 디지털 솔루션 기반의 중장비 운영 체제 등을 전시한다. 23톤급 전기 굴삭기 EC230, 종전보다 연비 효율을 25% 향상한 50톤 규모의 크롤러 굴삭기 EC550E, 세계 최초의 수소 연료 전지 험지형 굴절식 트럭 HX04 등을 내보이는 것. 제플린 캣(Zeppelin Cat)은 저탄소 제품을 전면에 내세운다. 출력을 유지한 채 엔진 속도를 낮춰 종전 모델보다 이산화탄소 배출량을 최대 22% 줄인 유압식 굴삭기 Cat 323이 대표적인 친환경 모델이다.
