카카오게임즈가 주력 게임인 오딘의 부진으로 시장 예상치를 밑도는 2분기 실적을 거뒀다. 카카오게임즈는 지난 2분기 매출 2711억원, 영업이익 265억원, 당기순이익 87억원을 기록했다고 2일 공시했다. 이는 당초 시장에서 예상했던 매출 2951억원, 영업이익 343억원, 당기순이익 310억원을 하회하는 수치다. 카카오게임즈의 2분기 매출, 영업이익, 당기순이익은 전년 동기 대비 각각 20.0%, 67.3%, 86.4% 감소했다. 카카오게임즈의 2분기 매출을 구성하는 모바일게임, PC게임, 기타부문 매출 모두 전년 동기 대비 20% 가량 줄어들었다. 카카오게임즈의 2분기 모바일게임 매출은 1719억원을 기록해 전년 동기 2131억원 대비 19.3% 감소했다. 카카오게임즈는 "대만 오딘과 에버소울 출시 기저효과가 발생해 모바일 게임 매출이 줄었다"고 설명했다. 카카오게임즈 자회사인 세나테크놀로지와 카카오VX 실적이 포함된 기타 부문의 매출은 1108억원으로 전년 동기 대비 21.2% 감소했다. 카카오게임즈는 "기타 부문 매출 비중은 각각 세나가 55%, VX가 45%를 차지하고 있다"면서 "두 사업 모두 성장 정체가 지속될 것으로 보이며 수익성 관리에 신경쓰고 있다"고 밝혔다. 카카오게임즈의 2분기 PC 매출은 전년 동기 대비 20.5% 감소한 119억원을 기록했다. 이러한 매출 감소 영향을 받아 카카오게임즈의 2분기 영업이익은 전년 동기 대비 70% 가까이 쪼그라들었다. 카카오게임즈의 2분기 영업비용은 2446억원을 기록해 전년 동기 대비 5.1% 감소했다. 카카오게임즈는 최근 순항 중인 신작 아레스 성과에 힘입어 3분기 실적 반등을 노린다. 카카오게임즈는 "신작 아레스가 구글 매출 2위를 기록했다"면서 "PC RPG처럼 오랫동안 서비스하면서 지속적인 매출을 만들 계획이며 아레스에 맞는 시장 중심으로 글로벌 런칭을 준비할 예정"이라고 밝혔다.
