판매 급증에 배송 지연·품절 안내“내 몸은 내가 지켜야” 불안감 확산

한 인터넷 쇼핑몰에 삼단봉 품절. 쇼핑몰 누리집 갈무리“최근 지속해서 발생하는 심각한 사건으로 호신용품의 판매량이 급증하고 있습니다…최대한 빠르게 배송될 수 있도록 노력하겠으며, 저희 회사의 모토처럼 ‘꼭 사용할 일이 없으시길’ 바랍니다.”4일 호신용품을 파는 네이버 스마트 스토어가 배송 지연을 안내하며 올린 글이다. 1만5900원인 이 삼단봉 스토어에는 8100개가 넘는 후기가 달렸다. 대부분 “대낮에 묻지마 살인이 벌어졌다는 흉흉한 글을 보고 호신용으로 구입했다”는 내용이다. 서울 관악구 신림동 칼부림 사건이 벌어진 지 13일 만인 지난 3일 경기 성남 분당구 서현역 인근 백화점에서 또다시 무차별 범죄가 발생하자 호신용품을 찾는 소비자가 급증하고 있다. 대형 커뮤니티에 잇단 범행 예고 게시물이 올라오며 경찰이 수사에 나섰다는 뉴스도 소비자들의 불안감을 증폭시키고 있다. 이에 일부 상품은 품절 사태까지 빚고 있다.

호신용품을 판매하는 한 업체 안내문. 누리집 갈무리이날 지마켓에 따르면, 지난달 22일부터 이달 3일까지 호신용품 매출은 지난해 같은 기간에 견줘 243% 증가했다. 호신용 삼단봉 매출은 303%나 늘었다. 11번가에서도 호신용품과 호신용 스프레이 매출이 전년 같은 기간에 견줘 각각 109%, 171% 증가했다.업계 관계자는 “지난달 21일 신림동 칼부림 사태 이후 ‘무슨 일을 당할지 모른다’는 불안감에 휩싸인 사람들이 스스로를 보호하기 위해 관련 용품을 많이 구매하는 것으로 풀이된다”며 “여기에 3일 분당 서현역 사태로 인해 호신용품 판매는 더 급증할 것으로 본다”고 내다봤다. 실제로 서현역 사건 직후인 4일 네이버 쇼핑 검색 차트에는 ‘호신용품’이 상위권에 랭크되기도 했다.

여성에게 인기 많은 쿠보탄. 구매 후기가 1300개 넘게 달렸다. 쇼핑몰 누리집 갈무리서울 성북구에 사는 40대 여성 유아무개씨는 “볼일을 보고 돌아오며 전철을 타거나 길을 걸을 때 자꾸 주위를 두리번거리며 살피게 되고 작은 소리에도 예민한 반응을 보이게 된다”며 “가족들이 모인 카톡방에서 각자 호신용품이라도 구매해야 하는 것 아니냐는 의견을 나눴다”고 말했다.
