“회사 지속가능성 의문” 우려에 하룻새 최고 33% 급락2021년 상장때 11.78달러…현재 주가 0.21달러 ‘동전주’[이데일리 이명철 기자] “우린 폭망했다(we crashed).”애플TV에서 방영한 드라마 ‘우린 폭망했다’는 단일 개방형 사무실로 시작해 세계적 브랜드로 성장했다가 단기간에 사업이 위축된 위워크(WeWork)의 이야기를 다뤄 화제가 됐다. 이제는 드라마가 아니라 현실에서도 위워크에 대한 진지한 우려가 나오고 있다.한국에도 진출해 친숙한 공유 오피스 기업인 위워크의 주가가 폭락했다. 단순 실적 부진을 넘어 사업 운영 능력 자체에 대한 의구심이 쏟아졌기 때문이다. 한때 세계에서 가장 가치 있는 스타트업 중 하나였던 위워크는 손실이 확대되고 부채는 불어나면서 사업 정상화가 요원한 상황이다.

(사진=AFP)8일(현지시간) 뉴욕거래소에서 위워크 주가는 전일대비 5.50% 내린 0.21달러(약 277원)에 거래를 마쳤다. 하지만 시간외 거래에서 낙폭을 더 키우면서 최대 33%까지 떨어진 것으로 나타났다.위워크는 이날 올해 2분기 당기순손실 3억4900만달러(약 4600억원)을 기록했다고 밝혔다. 지난해 2분기 손실 규모인 5억7700만달러(약 7600억원)보다는 크게 줄었다. 매출은 8억4400만달러(약 1조1000억원)로 전년동기대비 4% 증가했지만 시장 예측치인 8억5000만달러에는 조금 못 미쳤다.주가가 급락한 가장 이유는 사업 지속에 대한 우려 때문으로 풀이된다.월스트리트저널(WSJ), 블룸버그통신 등 외신에 따르면 위워크 경영진들은 또한 이번 실적과 관련해 “최근 회원 이탈 증가에 따른 것”이라면서 “회사가 계속기업으로서 존속할 수 있는지에 대해 상당한 의구심이 존재한다”고 밝혔다. 이런 소식이 알려진 후 시간 외 거래에서 주식 매도세가 이어진 것이다.위워크는 전세계에서 부동산을 매입한 후에 공유 오피스를 제공하는 사업 방식으로 성장했다. 안정적인 업무 공간을 원하는 스타트업이 크게 늘고 일반 근로자들의 수요와 맞물려 기업 가치도 크게 올라갔다.
