국내 코로나19 확산세가 좀처럼 수그러들지 않으면서 이번 ‘3차 대유행’의 속도와 범위가 점점 빨라지고 넓어지는 양상을 띠고 있다. 곳곳에서 집단감염이 동시다발적으로 터져 나와 신규 확진자는 이미 연이틀 500명대를 기록했다.

감염병 전문가들은 현재 추세대로라면 확진자가 하루에 1000명 이상 나오면서 이번 유행 규모가 앞선 1차 대유행 수준을 뛰어넘을 수도 있을 것으로 내다보고 있다.

이에 정부는 29일 중앙재난안전대책본부 회의를 열어 수도권과 전국의 ‘사회적 거리두기’ 격상 여부를 논의하기로 했다. 현재 광역단체 가운데 수도권에는 거리두기 2단계, 호남권에는 1.5단계가 각각 시행 중이다.

28일 중앙방역대책본부에 따르면 전날 0시 기준 국내 코로나19 신규 확진자는 569명으로 집계됐다. 직전일인 26일(583명)에 이어 이틀 연속 500명대를 나타냈다.
